What do Millennials spend their money on?
Generally, millennials tend to prioritize convenience, spending more than other generations on: Online shopping. Debt repayment. Eating out.
Fashion aside, well-off millennials are also spending on smaller luxuries, such as high-end bedding, flight upgrades on vacations, and nicer hotels — or something as small as fancier soap.
Technology is the most popular sector of investment for Gen Z, millennials, and Gen X, but millennial respondents in particular have a keen interest in tech stocks, with 53% of respondents in that generation saying they own stocks in the tech sector compared to roughly 35% of each of the other generations.

When it comes to authority, millennials desire to be in charge and direct others. This aligns with their tendency to be decisive, confident, and solution-oriented.
The Bank of America survey found that 80% of young investors are now looking to alternative investments, such as private equity, commodities, real estate and other tangible assets.
Aligning on money is all the more pressing for younger generations, who are earlier on in their relationships and careers—nearly half (49%) of Gen Zers view financial compatibility as more important than physical compatibility. That's compared to 40% of millennials, 35% of Gen Xers, and 30% of baby boomers.

Many factors are at play, including income, debt, dwindling savings, and poor financial choices. Close to 75% of millennial women and 70% of all those surveyed say they struggle to make ends meet with their current salary. The average income for millennials surveyed is $74,106, roughly $35 an hour.
According to Bank of America, Gen Z is 45% more likely “to cite the desire to comfortably afford material items ... as a motivator to achieving financial success.” For reference, that's in comparison to 34% of millennials and 30% of Gen X.
I write about personal finance, college and student loan debt. Millennials, or people born between 1981 and 1996, are known for living at home with their parents longer, renting instead of buying a home, and staying in college to earn advanced degrees while simultaneously drowning in student loan debt.
With that said, Gen Z is a credit-friendly generation--they're just careful about falling into debt traps. Sixty-five percent of Gen Z is credit active and half have a credit score of 661 or above. (Only 39% of Millennials had the same score or higher!)
