Sometimes, making sacrifices—be it time, money, or anything else—is not something a person is willing to do, no matter how much they love the one in need.
For this redditor, it was their sister, who needed financial help due to a long and complicated custody battle. And even though the OP’s parents were giving nearly all their money away, the redditor wasn’t willing to go into debt or cancel their long-awaited vacation, for that matter, to support their sister. Scroll down for the full story below.

Below you will also find Bored Panda’s interview with an expert in finance, a founding member of the Financial Planning Association of Canada and the co-founder and CEO of ‘Spring Planning’, Julia Chung, who was kind enough to answer a few of our questions.
Handling personal finances can be complicated enough as it is, not to mention when someone you love needs financial help

A writer here at Bored Panda, I am a lover of good music, good food, and good company, which makes food-related topics and feel-good stories my favorite ones to cover. Passionate about traveling and concerts, I constantly seek occasions to visit places yet personally unexplored. I also enjoy spending free time outdoors, trying out different sports—even if I don’t look too graceful at it—or socializing over a cup of coffee.

I'm a visual editor here at Bored Panda and I enjoy a good laugh. My work ranges from serious topics related to toxic work environments and relationship difficulties to humorous articles about online shopping fails and introvert memes. When I'm not at my work desk, checking if every single pixel is in the right place, I usually spend my free time playing board games, taking pictures, and watching documentaries

There's no amount of money that this woman can make, raise, or borrow that's going to change international law. She's delusional and her parents have fed into the delusion, to their financial ruin. I hope OP enjoys her vacation without an ounce of guilt.

Ironic that OP is a phlebotomist but her sister bled their parents dry.

Obviously NTA. Sister is TA for running the entire family into bankruptcy, and for not prioritising her child. She's also delusional for assuming that living in the US as an American is the default or in any way preferable to what seems from the post like a European welfare state.

If I was the court, no way I'd send an 8yr old to the US where schools have active shooter drills, armed guards and metal detectors. The sister should move back to be with her kid.

As much as it sucks for her, the sister is TA and really has to stop trying because she's only wasting more and more money for a cause that she can never win. Both countries legislatives have agreed that the child should better stay in the current country, and there's the dad who also has a say. It's pointless, she'll either have to give the child to the father and leave on her own or stay.

She just needs to suck it up and stay there for her child but she can't take no for an answer apparently.
