Karon Damian Booker Obituary - 2022 (2024)

On Thursday, December 29, 2022, Karon Damian Booker transitioned from his earthly body to his heavenly body to be present with the Lord.

Affectionately known as “Pete” or “KB,” Karon was born on August 31, 1974, in Richmond, VA, and reared in Amelia County, VA by his parents Frank and Shirley Booker.

Karon was baptized at an early age and joined Pilgrim Baptist Church in Jetersville, VA where he sang in the youth choir. Wise beyond his years, Karon loved history, travel, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and legendary entertainers. He graduated from Amelia County High School in 1993 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminology from Longwood College (now Longwood University) in Farmville, VA. Later in life, Karon became a member of Jessie N. Dawkins Lodge No. 8, Grand Lodge of the State of Pennsylvania and King Solomon Lodge No. 5, Baltimore, MD.

Karon worked as a Mental Health Case Manager with District 19 Community Services Board in Petersburg, VA. In addition to his full-time job, Karon worked part-time as a Therapeutic Mentor with enCircle -- recently celebrating 20 years of service mentoring and helping to obtain permanency for foster kids. He received numerous awards and recognition for his commitment to helping youth and families, including “Mentor of the Year” honors.

Everyone who knew Karon felt his big heart and giving nature. He was never at a loss for words of wisdom, a good laugh, or providing support for anyone that needed it. He was very devoted to his family, especially his daughter.

Karon was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Eddie and Lucy Chalkley, paternal grandparents Frank and Isabelle Booker, and his beloved dog Rex.

He truly will be missed by his parents Frank Booker, Jr. (Jacqueline) and Shirley Chalkley Booker; cherished daughter and travel companion Ava; bonus daughters Ashlee and Danielle; siblings Evangela, Franshawn, and Aaron; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, best friends from college, and loved ones.
